1. Who is responsible

Nena Popat, Alstertwiete 1b, 20099 Hamburg, Germany. Email: nena.popat@icloud.com

2. In short

  • There is no account. Your journal is stored on your phone.
  • Photos of your pages or their text are only sent to an AI service if you agree. You can refuse and still use the app.
  • Goals are only shared with a friend if you agree and choose which goals.
  • This website uses no cookies, no analytics and no tracking. Fonts are served from this site.

3. The app

Data on your device. Entries, images, topics, goals and settings are stored locally on your phone. You can export them or delete them at any time in the app. An optional app lock (Face ID, fingerprint or passcode) protects the app. Reminders are scheduled on your device and never contain content from your journal.

AI reading and analysis (only with your consent). If you agree, the app sends the photo of a page or its text to our relay server (hosted on Cloudflare Workers, distributed worldwide, running in a data centre near you) which forwards it to Anthropic (Claude, USA) to read your handwriting and to find topics, threads and summaries. Your journal may contain very personal information, including about your health. That is why we ask for your explicit consent (Art. 6(1)(a) and Art. 9(2)(a) GDPR). Because Anthropic is in the USA, the transfer is based on your consent (Art. 49(1)(a) GDPR). Anthropic processes the content as the provider of the AI service under its terms for business customers, which also set out how long data is kept. You can withdraw your consent at any time in the app. Images attached to entries as memories are never sent to the AI.

Technical data on the relay server. To prevent abuse, the server counts requests per day using a random device ID created by the app. It contains no name and no journal content. The counters are deleted automatically after 2 days. Cloudflare itself may process technical connection data; its own privacy notice applies to that. The server does not store the content of your pages.

Sharing goals with a friend (optional, only with your consent). If you connect with a friend through an invite code, the following is stored on our server (Cloudflare): the name you choose for her, the names and daily targets of the goals you choose to share, and your numbers for the current week. Journal texts, images and topics are never shared. The invite code is valid for 48 hours and can be used once. Ending the connection deletes the shared data for both of you; without activity the server deletes it after 60 days.

Crisis notice. If a page contains something very heavy, the app does not analyse it and shows places to get help.

4. Website

Waitlist (optional). If you click “Join the waitlist”, your email program opens a ready-made message to us. If you send it, we receive your email address and your message. We use the address only to tell you when the app launches, and delete it on request or after the launch announcement.

Links to other sites. The home page links to our Instagram profile (@byom.journal). If you click it, you leave this site and Instagram’s own privacy notice applies.

This site sets no cookies and uses no analytics. It stores your language choice in your browser (local storage) only. The site is hosted by Cloudflare (Cloudflare, Inc., USA). Cloudflare processes technical connection data (for example the IP address) to deliver the pages; how long it keeps them is set out in Cloudflare’s own privacy notice.

5. Your rights

You have the right to access, rectification, erasure, restriction, data portability and objection, and to withdraw consent at any time. You can also lodge a complaint with a data protection authority, for example the Hamburg Commissioner for Data Protection and Freedom of Information. Contact: nena.popat@icloud.com.

6. Age

byom is intended for people aged 16 and over. If you are younger, please do not use the app.

7. Changes

We will update this text when the app changes. Last updated: 2 November 2026.

1. Verantwortlich

Nena Popat, Alstertwiete 1b, 20099 Hamburg, Deutschland. E-Mail: nena.popat@icloud.com

2. Kurz gesagt
